Blacksod Lighthouse

We studied lighthouses in Geography. We also studied the role of Blacksod Lighthouse and Maureen Sweeney in D-Day and World War 2. On Friday March 15th, we enjoyed a fabulous tour of Blacksod Lighthouse, under the guidance of Fergal.

We are now awaiting the publication of the novel "The Weather Girls" written by Sarah Webb. It is a fictional story based on real life events - World War 2 and it is set in Blacksod Lighthouse.

We're hoping to meet the author Sarah Webb during her upcoming visit to Belmullet.

STEM - Robotics - Vex - Galway

The children from the senior classroom travelled to Galway to participate in the Vex Robotics challenge in ATU Galway on Wednesday January 17th.

We left the school at 6:15am on a cold, wintery morning with our robot, which the children have worked extremely hard on since September. The challenge is to design and build a robot, capable of competing in tasks and to code the robot to work autonomously.

We had a fantastic day - learning more about robotics, meeting children from other schools and of course, the craic on the bus was great 😀

Well done to Callum, Paige, Emma and Ellen who competed in The Irish League of Credit Unions quiz which was held in The Broadhaven Bay Totel on Saturday January 27th. The children did really well and they are a credit to themselves and to their families. Well done guys!

Library Visit - October 12th 2023

The children in the senior classes visited the library in Belmullet as part of their Children's Book Festival. There we had the pleasure of meeting the author Brian Gallagher. He spoke with the children of the work and process involved in writing a book and his inspirations. He read some excerpts of his work .. and left us wanting to hear more!! We then had a question and answer session where the children asked him some great questions. Thank you Brian for your time and to Kate Healy in the library for organising this and inviting us to enjoy it.

Erris Cross Country Event 2023

We had a fantastic day, taking part in the Erris Cross Country race held at Tallagh GAA grounds on Friday September 15th. The sun was shining, we ran, we laughed, we supported each other, we met our friends from other schools in Erris and we had great fun! Thanks so much to all at Erris Athletics Club for hosting such a great event.

RNLI Lifeboat Station

We had a fun and very informative trip to our local RNLI Lifeboat Station on the 20th June.

The children made some generous donations to such a worthy cause and thanked the volunteers for all their hard work.
